Heads of Toshiba and Western Digital to hold talks on May 24

Satoshi Tsunakawa (Mainichi)

Satoshi Tsunakawa, president of troubled electronics giant Toshiba Corp., will hold talks with Western Digital Corp. CEO Steve Milligan on May 24 regarding the planned sale of Toshiba's semiconductor unit, it has been learned.

The two firms, which are semiconductor business partners, have failed to reach an agreement about the future plans for the unit. Western Digital insists that the unit should be sold to them, whereas Toshiba is looking to find a company willing to bid a higher price -- ideally at least 2 trillion yen (about U.S. $17.9 billion).

It is thought that Tsunakawa and Milligan are hoping to reach an agreement over the sale of the semiconductor unit during the May 24 talks.
