Photo Journal: Growing up fast

A group of youths participating in this year's Coming-of-Age ceremony take a selfie in Naraha, Fukushima Prefecture, on Jan. 10, 2016. It was the first such ceremony held in the town after the outbreak of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster. While only 421 residents, or 6 percent, of Naraha's 7,363 residents had returned to the town as of Jan. 4 following the lifting of evacuation orders, 73 youngsters who turned 20 years old last year, or who are turning 20 by April 1 this year, joined the event. The young people had just graduated from junior high school when the March 2011 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear meltdowns struck. (Mainichi)
