Photo Journal: An eye for art

Artisans paint a carp streamer at his shop Hashimoto Yakichi in Kazo, Saitama Prefecture. The shop, founded in 1908, is the only one in the prefecture that still paints the traditional carp streamers by hand, each one apparently taking one to three months to complete. Takashi Hashimoto, 75, the third generation of his family to run the shop, and his staff are hard at work to get them all done in time for Children's Day on May 5, when carp streamers are traditionally hoisted in front of people's homes.
