Dragon Quest marks 30th anniversary, commemorative museum opens

Thirty years have passed since the first title of the popular role-playing game Dragon Quest was released. To commemorate the occasion, "Dragon Quest 30th Anniversary Museum" is open from July 24 to Sept. 11.

The first title of Dragon Quest was released in May 1986 as game software for Nintendo Co.'s "Family Computer" console, and a total of 10 titles have so far been sold. Whenever a new title is released, many people form a long line in front of shops that sell the software, leading to a social phenomenon. The series has sold a total of over 66 million pieces. Other game software and manga works derive from Dragon Quest.
