Photo Journal: Kyoto's animal kingdom

Edo period painter Ito Jakuchu's masterpiece, "Birds, Animals and Flowering Plants in Imaginary Scene," is seen on security shutters at a traditional Japanese pickles store at Nishiki Market in Kyoto's Nakagyo Ward on Oct. 2, 2016, as a night exhibition of the Kyoto native artist using shops at the market afterhours opened. The Nishiki Market shopping district promotion association and other groups organized the event because Ito (1716-1800) was born to a wholesale vegetable supplier at the market. Special window film with Ito's artworks printed on has been pasted onto security shutters at 33 shops at the market that stretches for some 390 meters east-west. The event is held nightly between 7 to 10 p.m. through Oct. 30. (Mainichi)
