Lanterns held aloft on bamboo poles are carried down a major thoroughfare in Tokyo's Minato Ward on Nov. 20, 2016, as part of the first ever Tohoku Rokkon Festival Parade held in the capital. The parade featured elements from northeastern Japan's six major summer festivals known collectively as the Tohoku Rokkon Festival, and the lanterns are from the Akita Kanto Festival. About 370 people participated in the parade, which went from the Toranomon area to the Shimbashi neighborhood and then back again. About 20,000 spectators were on hand to take in the spectacle.
