Photo Journal: In remembrance

Candles arranged to read "1995," the kanji for "light" and "1.17" light up the evening on the 22nd anniversary of the Great Hanshin Earthquake, in Higashi Yuenchi Park in Kobe's Chuo Ward, on Jan. 17, 2017. Mourning events were held in different areas to commemorate the disaster, in which 6,434 people died. Relatives of people who died in the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake also visited the Kobe park to join in the event. (Mainichi)
