Actress Maki Horikita has announced her retirement from the entertainment industry, in order to focus on raising her newborn child.
Horikita, 28, made her announcement by posting a scanned version of a handwritten letter, dated Feb. 28, 2017, on her official website.
In the letter, Horikita stated, "Since becoming a mother, I have been enjoying a happy life with my family. I want to fully embrace this joyful and precious period in my life, and focus on building a loving family with my husband."
According to the star's management agency, Horikita has wanted to retire for the past 12 months or so, and these feelings have grown stronger since she became a mother in December 2016.
Horikita made her TV acting debut in 2003 when she appeared in the Fuji TV drama "Itsumo futari de." She has also worked as an MC for the "Kohaku singing contest," in 2012.
Horikita is married to actor Koji Yamamoto, 40. The two met when they co-starred in a production of "Wuthering Heights," and they married soon after in August 2015.
