Photo Journal: Sun Sun, here it comes

Local residents cheerfully welcome the opening of a new shopping village in the town of Minamisanriku in Miyagi Prefecture on March 3, 2017. The new shopping district, called "Minamisanriku Sun Sun Shopping Village," moved to its current location on reclaimed land, having previously operated at a makeshift site until the end of 2016 in the years after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. The Sun Sun shopping village is expected to brighten up Minamisanriku's general situation, given that the town suffered extensive damage following the quake and ensuing tsunami in 2011. Sun Sun was designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates and houses 28 stores. (Mainichi)
