Photo Journal: Spring treat

A "Hokkaido squirrel" is seen among colorful flowers at Urausu Shrine in the town of Urausu, Hokkaido, on April 27, 2017. Several Hokkaido squirrels -- a subspecies of the Eurasian red squirrel -- are believed to inhabit the area, drawing a host of tourists eager to take photographs of the adorable animal. According to the town's tourist association, there are fewer sightings of Hokkaido squirrels this spring while more raccoons have been spotted in the area. The flowers -- including pale red-purple dogtooth violets -- are best for viewing until around the end of April. (Mainichi)
