Photo Journal: Cultivated canvas

Two characters from the popular high school cycling club manga "Yowamushi Pedal" (weakling pedal) are seen recreated in a rice paddy in the Mita area of Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture, on July 2, 2017. The "rice paddy art" is a collaborative project between the manga's publisher and the Utsunomiya Blitzen professional cycling team using different colors of rice plants. The piece is part of an Oyama Municipal Government exhibition to celebrate agriculture and community building, held annually since 2011. This time around, there are sports-themed creations in four locations throughout the city. The Mita site is the largest at roughly 11,000 square meters, and all of the paddy art pieces are expected to look their best around the end of July. More information about the theme and location of each piece can be found at the Oyama Rice Paddy Art homepage (https://oyamatanboart.com/#english). (Mainichi)
