Photo Journal: Mouthwatering harvest

Watermelons that have been grown in the Hata district of Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture, are laid on shelves in this recent photo. The watermelons, which each weigh as much as 10 kilograms, undergo quality inspections before being shipped. Local farmers say watermelons grown in Hata are particularly sweet because of the large difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures in the area. By late September, some 1.7 million watermelons are expected to be shipped. (Mainichi)
