Photo Journal: Treat for the heat

A polar bear eats a watermelon on ice at Sapporo Maruyama Zoo in the city's Chuo Ward on July 13, 2017, as the hot weather hit the area. One ton of ice was donated by the Japan Expanded Polystyrene Association for two polar bears at the zoo. The animals quickly bit into the watermelons and lay down on the ice to keep cool. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the high temperature in Sapporo reached 32 degrees Celsius on July 13. (Mainichi)
