Photo Journal: Fortuitous fish

Young residents of Minamichita, Aichi Prefecture, carry a giant red sea bream at Toyohama harbor during the "Tai Matsuri" (red bream festival) on July 22, 2017. The festival is held with hopes for a bountiful catch and safety on the seas. During the Meiji era, local boat-builders made a papier-mache mouse to liven up a ritual at Nakasu shrine, and over time it became the roughly 15-meter-long, 5-meter-high giant red sea bream of today. The fish has made its rounds in four districts of Minamichita, and will continue its tour on July 23. (Mainichi)
