Photo Journal: Auspicious albino

Popular all-white Indian crested porcupine "Choro" is seen at the Ichihara Elephant Kingdom, in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, on Aug. 9, 2017. Native to west Asia, porcupines like Choro are usually all black with a white pattern around their neck. However, Choro, who was born on July 7, the day of the Tanabata Festival, may be an albino, whose chances of birth are one in tens of thousands. He joins two other albino porcupines at Shirotori Zoo in Kagawa Prefecture. Choro is on public display and inquiries can be made to Ichihara Elephant Kingdom at 0436-88-3001 (in Japanese).
