With about 1,000 days to go until the start of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, The Mainichi Newspapers Co. has started hanging the flags of various countries and regions in the world on a building that houses its Tokyo head office.

The cloth flags, which are 210 centimeters wide and 140 centimeters high, are being draped over windows on the south side of Palaceside Building in Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward, opposite the Imperial Palace.

By the end of the first shift which started on Oct. 23, 50 flags had been placed over windows on the 4th and 5th floors of the building. The plan is to hang the flags of all 206 International Olympic Committee (IOC) members by Oct. 28, which marks just 1,000 days until the start of the Games.
