Photo Journal: Trendy figurines

A Tokyo doll maker shows five pairs of Hina dolls that reflect this year's social trends at an annual event that was held on Nov. 28. These include giant panda cub Xiang Xiang, which was born at Ueno Zoological Gardens in Tokyo's Taito Ward, Princess Mako and her college sweetheart Kei Komuro, who informally announced their engagement, and sprinter Yoshihide Kiryu, who became the first Japanese person to run the 100 meters in less than 10 seconds. The dolls go on public display at the Mataro Doll hall in Ueno, Tokyo, from Jan. 4 through March 3. (Mainichi)
