Horse-drawn carriages, including one carrying Ambassador Makarimi Abissola Adechoubou of the Republic of Benin to Japan (left), are seen in front of Tokyo Station in the capital's Chiyoda Ward on the morning of Dec. 11, 2017. The procession was heading to the Imperial Palace for a ceremony in which a newly appointed ambassador presents their credentials to the Emperor. It was the first time in a decade that the carriages had departed from in front of Tokyo Station, as a different route had been in use since April 2007 due to renovation and other work on the station building and in surrounding areas. Tourists were busy taking snaps of the flamboyant two-horse carriages, which were prepared by the Imperial Household Agency, as they plodded along Gyoko-dori avenue. (Mainichi)
