Photo Journal: Homecoming moon

A "super moon" rises over the crowded Tomei Expressway near the Ebina Junction in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture, on the evening of Jan. 2, 2018. It was the largest the moon has appeared in the night sky for the past year, and happened to coincide with the "U-turn rush" of people returning home from their New Year's holidays. According to the Japan Road Traffic Information Center, there were traffic jams of 20 kilometers-plus in the Tokyo-bound lanes of several expressway sections, including 36 kilometers on the Kanetsu Expressway and 34 kilometers on the Tohoku Expressway.
