Health care venture wins top prize at first Mainichi Future Creation Lab demo day

A health care business venture using eggplants won the top award at a demo day presentation hosted by Mainichi Future Creation Laboratory Co., a firm launched by The Mainichi Newspapers Co. and other companies to help entrepreneurs create new businesses.

    Four teams that had taken part in Mainichi Future Creation Lab's first entrepreneurship support program presented their work during the event on March 7. Business venture "Wellnasu" working to develop health care products using an organic compound derived from eggplants with Shinshu University won the top prize. Judges recognized the firm's research work that originated from a university and saw the possibility of growth in the related market.

    The other three teams were: Ventus Inc., which presented its work to aid sport teams using blockchain technology; Gaudiy, which develops marketing support applications for business ventures; and Eighty Days, which works on local revitalization projects through inbound tourism with added value.

    The participants had been polishing their business proposals since last fall.
