Photo Journal: Traditional gamesmanship

Representatives from the villages of Tabayama and Kosuge in Yamanashi Prefecture, wearing antique combat uniforms, shake hands after finishing a pretend game to fix the boundary between them on March 25, 2018. The event was held by an organizing committee comprised of both villages' associations of commerce and industry to promote tourism and the rules of the game were based on folklore. Both teams started to walk at the same time from their municipal offices toward the boundary on a road and they fixed the boundary at the meeting point. The first such game was held in 2014 and Tabayama gained about 400 meters from the real boundary. In this second game, Kosuge drove Tabayama back about 150 meters from the previous meeting point.
