Photo Journal: Living color

Colorful carnations for Mother's Day are seen at the Murasawa flower farm in Iida, Nagano Prefecture, in this recent photo. Nagano Prefecture leads Japan in carnation shipments which, according to the prefecture, peak in June and July, just as production in other parts of Japan decreases. The Murasawa farm, located in a comparatively warmer part of the prefecture, cultivates 450,000 plants a year, and ships about 20,000 flowers annually for Mother's Day. (Mainichi)
