OSAKA (Kyodo) -- Sharp Corp. plans to pull out from domestic production of white goods appliances and shift to overseas manufacturing as part of streamlining efforts under Taiwanese parent Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., a source close to the matter said Friday.

Sharp will cease operations of its Yao plant in Osaka Prefecture in western Japan, which currently makes refrigerators, in the business year through March 2020, the source said. It will also end production of liquid crystal panel TVs at its Tochigi plant in eastern Japan by next March, it said.

There will be no job losses as employees will be reassigned elsewhere, it said.

Sharp, which is undergoing restructuring under President Tai Jeng-wu, has judged that production of white goods appliances should be moved to parts of Asia other than Japan where growth is expected, the source said.
