Tokyo stocks firm amid relief over US-China trade talk report

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Tokyo stocks were firm Friday on investor relief following a media report that the United States and China will hold trade talks next week.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 78.34 points, or 0.35 percent, from Thursday at 22,270.38. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 10.38 points, or 0.62 percent, higher at 1,697.53.

Gainers were led by marine transportation, precision instrument, and mining issues.
