Photo Journal: Back to business

Salmon and other seasonal fish are displayed for auction on Sept. 8, 2018, at Sapporo Central Wholesale Market after it reopened for business following a suspension of operations due to a prefecture-wide blackout caused by the powerful earthquake on Sept. 6. Most of the items that were up for auction on the day arrived at the market before the earthquake struck. The number of fish at auction was about 1/30th the regular amount and products were sold at slightly lower prices than usual as many supermarkets and restaurants are still closed. The blackout at the market cut power to refrigeration facilities, lights and other equipment. (Mainichi)
