Illuminated Japanese larch trees are reflected in Blue Pond, a popular tourist site in the town of Biei, Hokkaido, in this recent photo. The pond is often crowded with many visitors who want to see the artistic spectacle created by LED lights. Water from the upper Biei River and spring water containing aluminum from the Shirogane hot springs district flow into the pond. It apparently looks deep blue due to natural light reflecting on the minerals in the pond. The annual event began four years ago to attract people at night. The seasonal illumination can be enjoyed until the end of April 2019.
