Photo Journal: Fuji's red crown

The sun sets near the peak of Mount Fuji, which straddles Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures, in this photo taken in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward on Feb. 4, 2016 -- a rare sight in a city of skyscrapers. The view, also known as "Diamond Fuji," is visible for a limited time from the vicinity of the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery in Meiji Jingu Gaien park, because the old National Stadium has been torn down in preparation for building a new one the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics and Paralympics. The view will be blocked once construction begins later this year. From this particular vantage point, the sun can be seen setting near the mountain's peak at around 5 p.m. on Feb. 5, 2016, as well as on Nov. 5 and 6, 2016. (Mainichi)
