Photo Journal: 'Koto Bauer' bend

Sumo ozeki wrestler Kotoshogiku arches back before a bout during the 12th day of the January Grand Sumo Tournament at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan sumo venue on Jan. 21, 2016. In a news conference on Feb. 16, it was decided that his trademark performance would be called the "Koto Bauer" (a play on figure skating's Ina Bauer). When questioned about the move after winning the January tournament, Kotoshogiku had himself called it the "Koto Bauer," but the alternative name "Kiku Bauer" ended up spreading. After striking the pose during the Feb. 16 news conference, the wrestler pointed to a female reporter from a foreign news organization and said, "Let's have you decide," and it was settled that he would go with "Koto Bauer."
