Photo Journal: Mascot mania hits Hokkaido Shinkansen shindig

Women from a local commerce and industry association as well as Hokkaido Shinkansen bullet train official mascot Dokodemo Yuki-chan, second from right, and Zushi Hokki, the official municipal mascot for the city of Hokuto that features a hokkigai saltwater clam, are seen at JR Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station during a test-run event on Jan. 26, 2016. When it opens to passengers on March 26, the line between Shin-Aomori and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto stations will be the first Shinkansen service in the northernmost prefecture. The Hokkaido Shinkansen Line will link up with the existing Tohoku Shinkansen Line and allow people to travel between Tokyo and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto stations in as little as four hours and two minutes.
