JNTO reaches out to foreign tourists with Kumamoto quake info

The Japan Tourism Agency has added a "Kumamoto Earthquakes" section to the website of the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) to give foreign tourists information following a succession of deadly earthquakes in Kumamoto Prefecture.

The resource includes information in English about the status of the earthquakes, as well as the latest updates regarding airports, trains and expressways. It is updated about three times daily.

In addition, JNTO is also expanding its Tourist Information Center hotline, which normally operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., to a 24-hour service. The hotline, which is available in English, Chinese and Korean, may be reached at 03-3201-3331.

The Japan Tourism Agency also launched an application that has been available in Apple Stores since October 2014 called "Safety tips." The app provides access to earthquake early warning and tsunami warning systems in English, Chinese (both simplified and traditional), Korean and Japanese.

The Safety tips application may also be downloaded from the "Kumamoto Earthquakes" section of the JNTO website.
