74% hope Obama will visit Hiroshima: Mainichi poll
(Mainichi Japan)
Seventy-four percent of people in Japan polled in a recent Mainichi Shimbun survey said they are expecting U.S. President Barack Obama to visit Hiroshima when he arrives in Japan for the Group of Seven Ise-Shima Summit in May.
Expectations for a visit by Obama to the atomic-bombed city have heightened following the visits by U.S. and other G-7 foreign ministers to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park earlier this month, where they laid wreaths of flowers in front of the Cenotaph for the Atomic Bomb Victims and toured the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and the Atomic Bomb Dome.
Another 15 percent in the poll conducted on April 16 and 17 said they didn't expect Obama to visit.
