Robot models from the popular anime "Mobile Suit Gundam" were unveiled at the tourist facility "Inagi Hasshin Kichi Pear Terrace" in front of JR Inaginaganuma Station, in the Tokyo suburban city of Inagi, on April 23. Inagi is the birthplace and current residence of Kunio Okawara, 68, the "mechanic designer" for the robotic designs seen in the Gundam franchise. The models -- depicting Gundam, the robot piloted by hero Amuro Ray, and a specialized Zaku robot piloted by his arch-enemy Char Aznable -- are around 3.6 meters tall, or about one-fifth of their depicted size in the cartoon. The Inagi Municipal Government spent about the last three years on the project, from conception to completion, to help vitalize the local economy.
