KUMAMOTO -- The death of a man who was living in a car after the Kumamoto Earthquake has been recognized as linked to the tremors, the Kumamoto Prefectural Government announced on May 6, bringing the total number of people who are believed to have died due to indirect consequences of the quakes to 18.
The man who died was an 86-year-old resident of the city of Uto. According to the prefectural government and the Uto Municipal Government, the man was living in a car in the parking lot of a pachinko parlor in Uto after the large earthquake on April 14. On April 19 he was found collapsed outside of his car and confirmed dead. The cause of death was a pulmonary infarction, or artery blockage in the lungs.
