Photo Journal: Triumphant return

Athletes from the Japanese Olympic delegation show off their medals from the Rio Olympics at a news conference in Tokyo's Minato Ward on Aug. 24, 2016, after the main squad returned from the Brazilian city. The Japan team won a record 41 medals (12 gold, eight silver and 21 bronze) at Rio. Delegation captain and 53-kilogram wrestling silver medalist Saori Yoshida said, "The number of medals was a result of everyone not giving up and giving their best until the very end. I believe each of us will work hard to show the inspiration that the Rio Games gave in Tokyo in 2020." Rio Olympic medalists will appear in a parade scheduled in Tokyo on Oct. 7 that will be joined by Paralympic medalists for the first time. (Mainichi)
