JMA warns powerful quake could hit Tottori region again

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) warned that another massive earthquake could strike Tottori Prefecture and surrounding areas within about a week after a magnitude-6.6 temblor jolted the region on Oct. 21.

Agency officials explained that there are some examples of large earthquakes occurring after a major earthquake struck in this region.

"Residents of areas where the vibrations of the quake were strong should be on alert against another quake as powerful as lower-6 (on the Japanese intensity scale) over the coming week or so," a JMA official said. "In particular, a large quake could strike within a couple of days after the latest temblor."
