ICHINOMIYA, Aichi -- A truck driver who fatally struck a 9-year-old boy on Oct. 26 has told police he was playing the smartphone game 'Pokemon Go' at the time, law enforcers said.
Ichinomiya Police Station arrested local company worker Nobusuke Kawai, 36, on suspicion of negligent driving resulting in injury, and have since upgraded the charge to negligent driving resulting in death. Keita Noritake, a fourth-grade elementary student, was struck by Kawai's truck, suffered head injuries and died.
According to Ichinomiya Police Station, Kawai has testified that he always turned on 'Pokemon Go' while driving and he was playing it at the time of the accident.
The site of the accident was an intersection without traffic lights. Noritake was crossing the road on the way back from school when the accident occurred.
