Photo Journal: Historic hosing

A simultaneous release of water envelopes the historic Shirakawa-go settlement, part of a registered UNESCO World Heritage site, and its pointed roofs as part of fire-fighting drills in Shirakawa, Gifu Prefecture, on Nov. 6, 2016. An association to protect the area's natural environment has set up a 600-metric-ton water tank on high ground, to which water hoses are attached. Water was blasted from the hoses in 59 locations to the timing of a siren, shooting up some 20 meters into the air to cheers from sightseers. (Mainichi)
