Photo Journal: Blue wonder

In this photo provided by the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, a female whale shark, right, and a male companion are seen in the aquarium's main tank. Of the facility's three whale sharks -- one male and two female -- one female has been moved to an ocean preserve to encourage the remaining pair to mate. The female still in the tank is being raised carefully to adulthood, while the male is already mature. Aquarium staff say that the male began following after the female around 2014, and with the third whale shark now elsewhere, hopes are high that they will produce the world's first whale shark offspring ever born in captivity.
