Body of missing 18-year-old boy found floating in Tama River

KAWASAKI -- The body of an 18-year-old Yokohama boy was found floating in the Tama River here on Dec. 2, an investigative source has told the Mainichi Shimbun.

    The body apparently has no external injuries, and the boy is thought to have drowned. Officers from the Kanagawa Prefectural Police's Tama Station suspect the boy may have been involved in an incident, and are investigating.

    According to the source close to the investigation, the fire department and other sources, the naked body was found floating face-up in the river at about 6 p.m. on Dec. 2. Firefighters dispatched to the river pronounced the boy dead at the scene.

    The 18-year-old had been missing since late November, and his mother had filed a missing person report with the prefectural police's Seya Station on the same day the body was found.
