Photo Journal: Singing sea lions

An ensemble of sea lions barks out in unison off the coast of the world natural heritage site, Shiretoko National Park in the town of Rausu in Hokkaido. The sea lions, which can be observed from small leisure fishing boats as part of a "sea creature tour," are gaining popularity. The sea lions seen here each weigh about 260 kilograms, and are barking out together around dawn, approximately 30 to 50 meters in front the boat. One of the tour visitors, a 43-year-old male company employee from the city of Kushiro, shouted out "bravo" as he watched the sea lions sing. (Mainichi)
