Photo Journal: Working like a dog

Fuku-chan, the canine stationmaster for JR Yuzawa Station in Akita Prefecture, is seen during the "Inukko matsuri" festival on Feb. 11, 2017. The event is a local folklore festival with a history of some 400 years, believed to have originated after a feudal lord warded off a notorious thief. The event organizer expects about 200,000 visitors in the two-day festival, where children can play with snow sculptures of temple buildings and dogs. The Yuzawa Municipal Government's tourism association plans to place dog stationmasters at Yuzawa Station on weekdays starting in April with the help of local dog owners. (Mainichi)
