Photo Journal: Snow glow

Visitors admire a spectacular display of small igloo-like snow domes at the Kamakura festival in the city of Yokote in Akita Prefecture on Feb. 15, 2017, the first day of the two-day event, which has been reportedly going strong for more than 400 years. One of the main features of the festival is the stunning display of candle-lit snow domes, approximately 100 in total, placed across the snow-covered ground. As curious visitors came to view the glowing snow domes for themselves, they were also greeted by local junior high school students handing out amazake (a sweet fermented rice drink). (Mainichi)
