Japan's first foreign female pro shogi player scores win

Karolina Styczynska, the first foreign woman to become a professional shogi player, secured her first victory as a pro on March 16.

The 25-year-old Polish shogi pro beat amateur player Maho Ishotani, 14, in a qualifying round for the annual women's championship. Styczynska's first win as a pro came in her second match after she became a professional player in February.
