Photo Journal: Avian evening

A flock of greater white-fronted geese rest their wings for the night at Miyajimanuma Wetlands in Bibai, Hokkaido, on April 16, 2017. This year, a record 85,820 birds were observed visiting the spot in a single day. The birds begin arriving at the wetlands in the middle of March to gather food and build their strength. They then usually head off for their breeding grounds in Siberia and other northern locations in late April. (Mainichi)
