Photo Journal: Pink perfection

Visitors admire the sight of lit up cherry blossom trees at Hirosaki Park in the city of Hirosaki in Aomori Prefecture, in the evening on April 28, 2017. The park is renowned as one of Japan's three most famous spots to view cherry blossoms, and also for its carpet-like layer of petals that form each year upon falling onto the water below. According to the Hirosaki Municipal Government, the petals that descend onto the water gradually change color over time. This year, it is thought that visitors will be able to view the petals, in their elegant pink-colored form, until around May 2. The evening viewing session on April 28 was part of the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival, which runs until May 7. The festival marks its 100th anniversary this year. (Mainichi)
