Photo Journal: Cry Baby Cry

Babies are seen crying during a "crying sumo" match at Hiroshima Gokoku Shrine on the "Children's Day" national holiday on May 5. The annual event, held as a sign of hope for tots' healthy growth, was joined this year by 889 baby "sumo wrestlers" aged 6 to 18 months old. A match lasts about one minute and the baby who cries the first wins. On May 5, when the referee shouted "Nokotta!" to start a bout, some babies instantly started blubbing, while others looked puzzled, prompting the parents to encourage them to cry. (Mainichi)
