Photo Journal: Bouncing Bambi

The first fawn born this season at the "Rokuen" deer shelter of Kasugataisha shrine runs through the grass in the city of Nara on May 8, 2017. The fawn has a body length of 66 centimeters and weighs 3.5 kilograms, and made cute sounds while running around for the media at the facility. Pregnant deer from the city's famous Nara Park are cared for at the shrine's facility, and this fawn will make its public debut with other newborns this June. The birth of the fawn was confirmed by 31-year-old Takayuki Kawabe, who joined the Foundation for the Protection of Deer in Nara that cares for the deer this spring. "This is the first year for both me and the fawn," he said. "I want us to grow together." (Mainichi)
