Photo Journal: Let it flow

A torrent of water pours through sluices in the Kurobe Dam in Tateyama, Toyama Prefecture, on June 26, 2017, as onlookers take in the scene. The opening of the sluicegates has become an annual tourist draw, as 10 to 15 metric tons of water per second comes gushing forth, producing rainbows in the quickly rising mist. Last year, about 930,000 visitors came for a gander at the fast-flowing water, and a viewing terrace was also installed to give people a better view. The hydroelectric dam has a capacity of some 200 million tons of water, and the gates will stay open from the morning to evening each day until Oct. 15. (Mainichi)
