Photo Journal: Star-struck streamers

Participants in the 67th Shonan Hiratsuka Tanabata Festival dance during a parade in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, for "tanabata," or the star festival, on July 7, 2017. Shiori Saito, one of the girls chosen to play the part of "Orihime," a deity that can only meet her lover "Hikoboshi" on this date each year, is seen in the foreground. The parade traveled roughly 400 meters along the Shonan Star Mall shopping street beneath bamboo decorations with colorful streamers fluttering in the summer breeze. The decorations will be lit by LED lights in the evening. The festival will run until July 9, and an estimated 1.55 million people are expected to attend. (Mainichi)
