Photo Journal: Ninja namesakes

Fans of the popular anime "Nintama Rantaro" (Rantaro the Ninja Boy) strike poses in costume for an event at Shioe Susanoo Shrine in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, on July 23, 2017. The event promoted tourism to the Amagasaki sites that inspired the names for ninja-in-training Rantaro Inadera and the other characters in the series. This fourth installment of the tour attracted some 300 fans, who enjoyed taking photos and drawing illustrations. Recently, more and more enthusiasts are touring the namesake sites, and Shioe Susanoo Shrine has become a holy ground, even featuring a prayer plaque designed by the original manga artist Sobe Amako.
